Making the “step up” market more efficient.
The less attractive aspects of legal practice do not make it into movies or television. You need a law license to "step up" in front of a judge on behalf of a natural person or legal entity. A good chunk of litigation requires attendance at routine court status hearings. Sometimes an attorney will enlist the help of what is commonly referred to as "coverage counsel" to "step up" in the attorneys place at such hearings.
A standard rate for what "step up" attorneys charge does not exist in the industry, nor does a standard rate for what attorneys who need coverage are willing to spend. StepUp was designed with that market in mind.
Todays legal coverage market is largely a word of mouth business. StepUp aims to connect attorneys who need coverage with attorneys available to "step up."
A constant concern among coverage counsel is, "When will I get paid for stepping up?" A constant concern among attorneys obtaining coverage is, "When will I receive my court results?" StepUp is designed to make those concerns a thing of the past. By using StepUp, coverage counsel only receives payment once the results are supplied to the attorneys that sought coverage. Upon receiving the results, the attorney has one business day to approve of the results, and then payment is made to the "step up" attorney.
